Members' rabbits Remembrance Roll 2009

The very worst part about having pets is losing them. Sometimes they have been our companions for just a short time, other times they have been our companions for many years. Whatever the situation, losing them can be very hard and often difficult to get over. This part of the website is dedicated to those rabbits who enriched our lives and have gone to live over Rainbow Bridge...

Rainbow Bridge (author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal, any kind of animal, dies that has been especially close to someone , that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to good health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, someone who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

If you have lost a rabbit and need someone to talk to who will understand your grief, please remember that the RWAF provides a pet bereavement counselling service to members. So do please contact us if you feel you need to and we hope to help make these hard times a little easier.

"I don't know how I would have coped without your support line. No matter how many times I rang, often hysterical and incoherent, I was never made to feel a nuisance. Whilst family and friends could not find the time for me, the voice at the end of the help line never let me down."

Toffy Simpson 5th June 2008 - 31st December 2009

Taken from us so suddenly after a short illness - we thought she would make it through but just became too weak to fight anymore and went to sleep on New Years Eve after 3 days in hospital.

She was such a beautiful, strong, independent bunny and yet so loving and gave us so much happiness. Affectionately known as "mouse" and "minnie" because as a baby, she had huge ears relative to the size of her face and looked more like a mouse when she pricked her ears up!

She was such a beautiful, strong, independent bunny and yet so loving and gave us so much happiness. Affectionately known as "mouse" and "minnie" because as a baby, she had huge ears relative to the size of her face and looked more like a mouse when she pricked her ears up!

She would love cuddling her head into our hands and no amount of stroking on the nose was ever enough for her.  "Dinner time" would come round and she would chase us round the house, running round our feet in circles with excitement.

We sometimes thought she should have been born a monkey because she was forever flying around and jumping up wherever she could. Her special place was sitting on top of a cushion on the conservatory lounger chairs, like queen of the castle. She was so happy.

So hard to take that her little life could be cut so short but we hope she is now at peace with her"brother" Snuffy who we lost in 2008.

Sleep well, Minnie Mouse. we hope now that you have no more pain.

Miss you so much, still can't believe you are gone and will never forget the time we had and the happiness you gave to us.

Bella Watson June 2002 - July 2009

For our beautiful Bella who left us so suddenly.

Bella was something very special to us, a happy and loving bunny who liked nothing more than to lie in the sun. We miss all of the wonderful things that you brought to our lives - your constant running around the house, watching TV with you sitting at our feet, the endless sessions of stroking, the banging on your hutch bars in the middle of the night beacuse you wanted attention, the little kiss goodnight that you gave your mum, the curious looks that you gave us when we scolded you for chewing the carpets, and the oceans of love that you gave us during your time with us.

You were such a special and wonderful bunny who gave us so much love and happiness. We find it hard to fill the time we spent with you now that you are gone but take comfort in the fact that you are at peace and will never be in pain again.

You were our little princess and we will love you forever.

Mum & Dad

Toffee Cream Chung 2008 - 2009

Toffee Cream was my first ever pet and a very loved friend that I was fortunate enough to meet and bring home with me in September 2008.
Every day we will go through the same routine; I will feed him, let him run about, groom him and clean out his cage and whilst it was always the same, there was something about these activities which made me look forward to the next day to do it all again. With each passing day our bond got stronger and stronger and within two weeks he was an important part of my life. These fun days unfortunately only lasted for three and a half months until the middle of January 2009 when he suffered a sudden bout of GI stasis for unknown reasons. We took him to the vet first thing the next day and whilst everything seemed optimistic, he unfortunately passed away that same night when there was no help available. As if knowing this was his last chance to say goodbye, he kept going until our whole family was together. He was in pain because he was grinding his teeth hard and breathing through his mouth but he was hanging on. Once everyone got together, as if feeling he has done what he had to, he passed away in my arms within a minute of me picking him up.
The sudden loss struck me so hard that I could not go through a day without feeling guilty for his quick departure. Did I treat him well? Did I spend enough time with him?  Did I do enough to save him? These are all questions that I would ask myself everyday and I would frantically search the Internet to find answers. This lasted for over a week until one day when I came across the story of Rainbow Bridge and read other member's dedications here on RWAF. Now, rather than feeling guilty and punishing myself, I understand that it is not the length of time we had that is important but the quality of the love which we had during our time together. My energy is now devoted to remembering the good times we had together until the day when we meet again at the Bridge. Until then, you will always be in our hearts.
With love from Henry and family and your two rabbit friends Barney and Roger who will miss the unconditional love you blessed us with.

Heidi Lyon July 2004 - January 2009

Heidi hopped into my life 4 1/2 years ago and, together with her sister Liesel, provided me with a constant source of laughter and love.  She was a beautiful bunny with the sweetest, gentlest nature and endeared everyone to her.  She had her loony moments, flying around the sitting room at top speed, bouncing off the sofas as she went, and her cuddly moments.  She liked to snuggle up next to me on the sofa and fall asleep in my arms each night.  Heidi was a wonderful spirit and I feel blessed to have shared my life with her.

Hop free little one, until we meet again.  All my love, your bunny mummy xx

Liesel Lyon 2004 - 2008

Liesel was a bold little bunny from the moment she came into my life, into everything right from the start.  When she first arrived as a baby, she couldn't stand on her back feet without falling over so I had to be there to catch her!  I remember when we had our first snow fall and you loved bouncing through it kicking your feet in the air with delight and binky hopping.  I love you with all my heart and miss you, but know that we will meet again on the other side.

Hop free with your little sister.  All my love, your bunny mummy xx

Pip Hettrick dob unknown- January 2009

Pip. She was brought to us as a stray at a time when I thought I couldn't consider sharing my house with another rabbit (I'd lost Minty, my hand reared baby). A friendlier and more content rabbit I have not and probably never will meet again. She was a one of a kind and converted many a bemused visitor into understanding the "thing" about rabbits. There is not enough emotion in words to express the loss we all feel without her.

Thank you Pip for the time we had together.

R and family x

Holly Withers July 2002- February 2009

Holly was my little 'queen of the castle', a tiny rabbit with a huge personality. She loved to tease her brother Bluebell and keep him on his toes. She had a delightful way of creeping close to the floor when she wanted to sneak into out-of-bounds areas or creep up on Bluebell. She was always full of life and energy right until the morning of the day she was so suddenly taken from me. She was a beautiful little pickle and I'll never forget her.

Brer Maconald dob unknown- February 2009

Brer was a very friendly happy rabbit who brought much joy to all around him.   He arrived with us via a local rescue centre after being neglected and allowed to eat anything.  He remains the only rabbit I know who was not strictly vegetarian!

Brer developed a mouth abscess late last year, and seemed to have recovered well from it.  Sadly, he quickly went downhill over the last few days and died whilst undergoing further treatment.

He will be very much missed by us all, not least his partner Bigwig and Oliver who enjoyed the fact that Brer liked nothng better than to be stroked.

With love from Andrew, Nicola, Oliver and Megan

Barny Bennett February 2007 - March 2009

Today we lost our French Lop Barny Bennett Born 1st Feb 2007 Died 1st March 2009 Unfortunately Barny was plagued with problems from about 3 months of age. Teeth probs were his misery,, after a couple of operations and all his front teeth removed and a couple of rears it was regular trips to the Vet for check ups,,, He was an indoor / outdoor rabbit, but eventually became a permanent house rabbit this winter and bought my partner and I much joy,,, he loved his special indoor house and delighted us with his unique personality, but just after the New year he was diagnosed with a mouth abscess,,, and after a major op it re appeared, our vet did her best and we eventually requested that we flushed it daily ourselves and even had a referral to a Vet called John Chitty ( this Tuesday in Fact ) but this morning he had deteriorated and it appears the abscess had joined forces with a second one and full blown pasturella had got to him. Unable to walk and a distressing hour after contacting the Vet and anyone else we could think of, he took his last breath, very upsetting, as yesterday ( the Saturday ) he was full of beans and we were looking forward to the long trip down to Hampshire for his referral.

We tried so hard for you Barny and we will miss you dearly a special bunny friend that we will always love.

Goodbye bunny until we meet again x x

Roger Flint 2008 - 2009

Roger came to live with us early in 2008 to be a companion for our other bunny, Pebbles. Not only did he become a best friend for Pebbles, he did for us too. He was a beautiful rabbit with striking blue eyes and lots of fluffy hair. He was adored by everyone who met him as he was so cute and friendly and it was lovely seeing him and Pebbles cuddling up together or grooming one another. Roger enjoyed running around our garden and demolishing most plants that we bought. Roger loved blueberries and blackberries and this would result in him having blue/purple stained fur around his mouth! Roger was only just over a year old when he was taken to the vets due to being off his food. The diagnosis was a massive tumour on his liver. We had to make the heart breaking decision to have him put to sleep.

Although we only knew Roger for a year, we feel blessed to have had such a lovely bunny in our lives and he will be very sadly missed by us and Pebbles.

Rest in peace our lovely bunny untill we meet again. Love, Kathy, David & Pebbles xxx

Whisky Radcliffe June 2009-July - 2009

Whisky was very young and was sadly only with us for a week of her life.  From the moment we brought Whisky home she was loved dearly with her cheeky mannerisms and loving ways, she soon became part of the family.  Whisky was taken ill just a week later and sadly died suddenly.  We miss Whisky so much and will never forget her.
Miss you sweetheart,
Phil, Hayley, Shake n Bake xxxx

Bunster McGuire November 2000 - November 2008

Goodbye to our beloved 'Bunny Bunster' who passed away peacefully after a short illness with Mummy, Daddy and her soulmate, Sparty. She was a very happy and chilled girl who loved to show it by growling at anyone daft enough to disturb her flop. Bunster was known as Miss Feisty and taught anyone who met her that bunnies indeed, were the boss. She loved to box and liked nothing more than a good fight with a sweeping brush. She loved her food and did a fantastic impression of the 'Bisto' kids whenever there was some toast being made. She is greatly missed but never forgotten - Mummy still has the scars :o)

Daphne Britten October 2004 - July 2009

Miss Daphne, our beloved and most beautiful girl. You lived such a long and very happy life, the most sociable bunny we've ever known. So many people are sad that you have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, your fan club. We feel a huge Daphne-shaped hole in our lives but feel blessed and honoured to of known you. Going on holidays won't be half as much fun without you.

Love Mummy, Daddy and little Maximus x.

Millie Jenkins Sept 2001- Aug 2009
Alfred Jenkins unknown - Aug 2009

Millie Alfred

You were both such lovely rabbits, Millie always contented to relax and greedy for food and Alfred so agile and friendly. You gave me and everyone who met you so much pleasure to watch you both snuggled up together.

I am so so sorry you had that horrible illness and so sorry you could not be saved, I had to let you go when I thought it was the right time.
With love forever until we meet again,

your Mummy xx

Honey Macdonald, 2002 - 2009

Our much loved bunny passed away suddenly after a very short illness. Honey gave us all so much joy, and swelled the bunny ranks when she first arrived.  She will be very much missed by her daughters, particularly Blackberry, and by the whole family.

Rest in peace Hun,

Lots of love

Andrew, Nicola, Oliver and Megan

Carlos Pinchien, 2006- 2009

Carlos you gave me so much joy and happiness, you could always make me smile.

I have so many happy memories of you and you will always be loved and never forgotten.

Be happy little man as you are free of any pain and have many friends at the Rainbow Bridge to bink about with.

I love you so much my 'special little guy'

Always in my heart Carlos. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I will miss your snuggles so much xxxxx

Oliver Jobling December 2001- December 2008

Our gorgeous boy crossed the bridge after a short illness in December.  He'll always be remembered as our 'floppy boy' as he was the most chilled out bunny ever.  He loved his time spent with his beloved partner Bailey who looked in disgust as he flopped right on top of her so he could be as close as possible.  His other favourite past time was eating including raiding the shopping bags for carrot tops :o)

We miss him terribly but he'll always be with us in our hearts.

With love, Mummy, Daddy and Bailey.

Bailey Jobling  September 1999 - September 2009

Bailey We are truly heart broken to have lost our beautiful girl Bailey ("Boo").  She was a very special girl who battled her way through many illnesses to reach a grand age of 10.  Sadly she crossed the bridge shortly after her 10th birthday to be reunited with her partner Ollie and her many friends.

We had an incredibly special bond.  I called her my 'little furry soul mate' as it was clear we were meant to be together from the first moment I set eyes on her.  Bailey always seemed to understand what we were saying to her and was always there to provide a snuggle when we were feeling down.  The house is a very empty place with out her.  She will never be forgotten.
