Members' rabbits Remembrance Roll 2010

The very worst part about having pets is losing them. Sometimes they have been our companions for just a short time, other times they have been our companions for many years. Whatever the situation, losing them can be very hard and often difficult to get over. This part of the website is dedicated to those rabbits who enriched our lives and have gone to live over Rainbow Bridge...

Rainbow Bridge (author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal, any kind of animal, dies that has been especially close to someone , that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to good health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, someone who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

If you have lost a rabbit and need someone to talk to who will understand your grief, please remember that the RWAF provides a pet bereavement counselling service to members. So do please contact us if you feel you need to and we hope to help make these hard times a little easier.

"I don't know how I would have coped without your support line. No matter how many times I rang, often hysterical and incoherent, I was never made to feel a nuisance. Whilst family and friends could not find the time for me, the voice at the end of the help line never let me down."

Leo - 24th April 2010

24th April 2010, my lovely boy Leo passed suddenly and unexpectedly from a fit caused by E-cuniculi (something i had never heard of at the time).

Leo was only young, not even 2 years old, his loss was such a shock, the kind loving bunny that would always hop on my bed to get me up in the mornings and the bunny who sat on the window sill watching for me whenever i went out was suddenly gone.

I miss you so much sweet cheeks R.I.P

Blackberry Macdonald June 2003 - September 2010

Blackberry was a very special bunny to Oliver and Megan who enjoyed the fact that she loved being stroked.  For some reason, she seemed to prefer human company to being with her own kind, but latterly she found happiness with Dennis, a lovely bubbly rescue bun.

You will be missed by all at The Warren, sleep tight.

Lots of love from Andrew, Nicola, Oliver, Megan and all the bunnies. XXXX

Poppy Pugh April 2005- June 2010

Poppy was one of the most beautiful rabbits you could ever find. We were blessed on the day that we bought her. She always wanted to be close or around you. She was very nosey and mischievious and always wanted to be into everything. She was always a very healthy rabbit when suddenly she became ill with Head Tilt. When she came home from the vets she couldn't stand up or eat and drink without us syringe feeding her. Despite the odds she gave it her all and after two months she was able to do everything that she used to be able to do apart from balancing to clean herself and she had one paralysed leg. For 6 months she continued to battle on until her back legs completely went and she was unable to walk and stopped eating as much which was unusual as she had always loved her food. She tried to still battle on but we decided that the time was right for her to leave us and after many tears and discussions she was taken to the vets to be put to sleep. There is a big hole in our lives now that shes gone as she was one of the family. She will always be remembered as one of the most lovely rabbits and everyone who met her loved her. We have many fond memories and loads of pictures to keep her memory alive now that she has gone.

Benson Gilbert April 2008- June 2010

Benson was a very special bunny who became part of our family just 2 years ago.

He was only 8 weeks old when we collected him from Lancashire. It did not take him long to settle into his new Edinburgh home and he got the hang of being a house bunny almost instantly.

When I got home from work each afternoon, the first thing I'd do would be call "Hey Benny Bob" at the foot of the stairs. By the time I got to our spare bedroom -- "Benson's Room", of course -- he was at the door of his cage waiting to jump out. For the rest of the day he'd follow us around, relax on his tummy in front of the fire or "help" with various chores around the house and garden!

Benson was a very healthy rabbit and only attended the vet for routine vaccinations. He sadly became unwell on the 1st June and died on the 3rd June. His sudden loss has been the hardest thing imaginable to accept. We still call to him from the foot of the stairs.

The amount of pleasure, fun and happiness this white bundle of fluff brought into our lives has been wonderful and it is difficult to imagine what it is going to be like without him hopping around day to day.
