Members' rabbits Remembrance Roll 2015

The very worst part about having pets is losing them. Sometimes they have been our companions for just a short time, other times they have been our companions for many years. Whatever the situation, losing them can be very hard and often difficult to get over. This part of the website is dedicated to those rabbits who enriched our lives and have gone to live over Rainbow Bridge...

Rainbow Bridge (author unknown)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal, any kind of animal, dies that has been especially close to someone , that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to good health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, someone who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

If you have lost a rabbit and need someone to talk to who will understand your grief, please remember that the RWAF provides a pet bereavement counselling service to members. So do please contact us if you feel you need to and we hope to help make these hard times a little easier.

"I don't know how I would have coped without your support line. No matter how many times I rang, often hysterical and incoherent, I was never made to feel a nuisance. Whilst family and friends could not find the time for me, the voice at the end of the help line never let me down."

Maxie - 2nd August 2015

Maxie who passed away in the early hours of 2nd August 2015, she was four years old and I never thought she would go so soon.

When she was a year old she had to have an operation under her jaw for an abcess and then the following year had to have her teeth out she was such a little trouper and even though I took her to the vets twice in the last week she still left me and broke my heart, I have her ashes near me at home and I also have some of her fur so I like to think she is keeping her eye on her friend Mo as her guardian angel bunny,

love you Maxie

The most affectionate and trusting bunny that I have ever had the pleasure of sharing life with.

We miss you so much Duffy x

Martha Gilbert
14th April 2012 - 21st August 2015

Martha joined the Gilbert family in September 2012 at 5 months old.

A very cute but extremely shy bunny at first - however when she met Rory our other house bunny they became great companions and she settled in just fine.

Martha was devoted to Rory, following him everywhere like a shadow. She ensured he ate properly and groomed him constantly. Rory and Martha had many adventures together, including a holiday in Suffolk earlier this year.

Martha became ill very suddenly and died at home being cuddled by Fiona and Rory.

Night, night Martha Belle - we'll miss you.

Rory, Fiona & Nick

In remembrance of Miffy, August 2012

It's three years since you died, and I still miss you terribly; there's still a huge gap without you, and I feel very sad today. I hope you're at peace where you are, and I know you are looking down on me.

Bear and I miss you very much.

Mummy and Bear xxxx

Bieber April 2015

Bieber - our new zealand white passed away aged only 2yrs 9mths in April 2015. She wasnt herself on Monday night, when I went to feed the rabbits in their shed, she hid from me. Beiber was my boss lady, she kept her shed mates in order, she was ultimate boss, and I was her best friend,so why hide?? Tuesday took her to vets, was given jab to stimulate her gut,go back next day. Wednesday still same but ate parsley, back to vet another jab, back next day but vet not happy to give another jab if no better, an hour after vets she passed,I still cant get over my baby, the shed is so unorganised without her. She understood me like no other bun does, she was very human like, clever, amazing and so loving,I miss her so much.

Mabel 2015

Our dearest Mabel, we have loved you dearly and you have given us so much love in return over so many years. You have gone from us now, from our lives but not from our hearts, gone to bounce around once again with Bob whom we have all missed so much over the last few years. You were a wonderful companion and constant source of fun in our lives and we will miss you dearly. Rest in Peace.

Love Mummy, Daddy and Daisy

Pip 6th July 2015

Lovely Pip (my Boo Boo, Daddy s Squeaky), it has been 4 days since you left us and we miss you so much. We remember the good times, how you made us laugh when you had your mad runs in the garden and rolled in the earth, showering us with dirt. How thoroughly you groomed and loved Bella. How you rolled on the floor in a crescent moon and licked your paw whilst muttering. You were beautiful colours and had a cute little white nose and you were our baby and we all miss you desperately.

You left us much too soon at 4 years old but we treasure the short time we had with you and will love you forever, our baby Pip.

All our love, 'Mummy', 'Daddy' and Bella xxx

Poppy - May 29th 2015

My beautiful girl Poppy had to go to rainbow bridge today and my heart is heavy and my home empty without her.

Binky free Poppy, I love you now and forever.

Harry. Deeply missed bundle of mischief who we lost on April 28 2015 aged 8

Harry, we miss you so very much.

Ever since we picked you up all those years ago, there was a special bond between you and us both. We watched you grow, from a tiny bundle of fluff, scared to leave his hidey-hole under the steps in his cage, to leaping forth from the cage roof a few days later. By the time you were less than 6 months old, you decided a cage wasn't the life for you. We agreed.

We taught you to climb the stairs soon after. You got it straight away.

From that day forth, you lived free in our houses and flats. You live in several. Five of your own, as well as visiting a few others along the way.

You were an explorer at heart, always climbing and wandering where it probably wasn't the safest place to be. The table, the shelving. If you could you would.

When we bought our first house, you'd come and demand your breakfast - often several times - in the morning. Plodding up the stairs and pulling at the carpet. We tried lots of ways to stop you. None ever worked for long. You were so clever, you always out smarted us.

You loved your food. From the obvious one: Peanut butter, nuts, fruit, greens and carrots, to the less obvious Croissants (with butter), fruit toast, jelly beans, pizza and cake.

By the time you were six, you developed cataracts. At first in one eye, then in both. This didn't stop you in the slightest. I was scared for you, but like a trooper you continued on as normal.

By the time we moved you for the last time, you had a large house to play and live in. Despite not knowing your surroundings, you adapted just fine. You even made a few accents upstairs, which was an amazing feat.

On New Years day 2014, we found an abscess behind your ear. We were crushed, and a few weeks later you had an operation to remove it. You came home thin, sad and woozy. Your legs didn't work they way they once used to. We thought we were losing you.

But, with daily injections administered by your Mum (you'd never let me do it), and lots of love (and treats), you came back to us. The weight went back on, your legs returned to you. We were so happy. You were a little fighter.

You gave us another year we with you we never imagined we'd have, and we're so thankful for that. So when you finally decided it was your time, we had the hardest decision to make, just a few days ago.

Harry. Bean. We miss you so very, very much. Just know you were loved so, so much. I know you're at peace now. Sleep well (you always did)

We'll never forget you

Love always

Jenna & Pete

P.S Pretty sure you out-stayed tammy.

Our beloved Archie a.k.a Baldy - passed away peacefully on 8 April 2015 aged 8.

Words cannot describe the pain we feel right now. Archie was a larger than life bundle of absolute joy. He chose me in April 2007 & we never looked back.

He was born deaf & we adjusted to that & he was always the one to sound the alarm to his brothers.

He was such a happy boy & bounced back time after time from his dental ops he faced. He was our little meerkat always on lookout. He knew his meds were helping him & was our angel until the end. He has left a huge gap in our lives & we miss him terribly.

He fought & overcome a lot of battles but sadly he wasn't able to fight his last. He chose to come home & was with us when he passed.

It was an honour to have been his mum & dad. I always believed that he'd gone to bunny heaven & now I can picture him on the Rainbow Bridge. He is reunited with Ozzie; JJ; Sydney & Charlie.

Until we meet again; we love you. XXX

Spike 2015

My wonderful little fluffball. There was never a dull moment with Spike.

He came to us from Wood Green in 2008 at 2 years old. Slowly he built up his confidence until he got to the point of sprawling out and giving us happy licks. He had his little ways such as never wanting to go outside and growling when he'd had enough strokes.

My husband, young son and I loved him to bits though. We nursed Spike through a leg amputation when he was 8. He was such a fighter and was just recovering when he suddenly had a heart attack one night and passed away in my husbands arms.

We will never forget you.

Barney 2015

Our handsome boy Barney, an energetic, happy house rabbit will be missed by us all and his bonded partner Smokie.

We walk in front room and there is something missing only to realise it`s Barney.

He left us too soon, he died at the vets during a supposedly routine castration.

Barney had a happy life and was part of our family but unfortunately his life was cut short. I wish I had not taken you to the vets as you would still be here with us now, bouncing about and looking out for Smokie as you always did.

We love you Barney and hope you are playing on Rainbow Bridge with Floppy and Springy. You are in good company our little love xx

Bella went to sleep 9th February

Bella was our late daughters last 'baby', she was Milos companion of 6 years. Bella was a good age she was 8.5 but after Milo died back in January she became poorly very quickly.

She was a character who would nibble your shoes...or at worse your trousers when you were in her cage cleaning, anything for attention. She was a beautiful little thing but who lorded it over Milo. She is the black and white dwarf, seen here chilling with Milo :-)

She will be missed.

Lavender, died 30th January 2015 aged 7.

I will miss your ability to make me smile, watching at the window to see who was passing by and keeping the rest of the hairy bunch in line. You ruled the roost and always managed to get your way. You were so easy going and although you were obviously in pain until the end you kept fighting and never complained.

I hope you and Arlie are back together now, sleep well little one.

You will never be forgotten.

Milo went to sleep 25th January.

You Milo, were one of our daughters 'babies', she passed away on New Years Eve 2014 and we wonder whether you just wanted to be with her.

You were a bundle of fun and at 8 yrs old I believe you were a geriatric! But thank you for making OUR baby smile. May you both rest in peace.

Oh Fred. What a brave boy you were, you were my brave little soldier. You were my funny boy, a cheeky chappy. You went through so many illnesses and came through the other side, who knew that this time would be different? We miss you, and Pod misses you.

I wish the vet had listened to us, and maybe you would still be here.

With tears we saw you suffer,
As we watched you fade away,
Our hearts were almost broken,
As you fought so hard to stay.
We knew you had to leave us,
But you never went alone,
For part of us went with you
The day you left your home.

Bernie, passed away 5th January 2015 aged 5 years and 5 month.

Dear Bernie,

Thank you for the time we shared together, you will always have a special place in our hearts.

Miss you so much, love you forever. RIP Bernster xxx
