Pet retailers are often the only source of information for owners and therefore they play an extremely valuable role in educating people on their responsibilities.
Help us prevent the all too common cases of neglect – caused mostly by ignorance – reported by rescues and on the RWAF helpline every day. At the point of sale, it’s crucial to provide the customer with some information to take away with them. If you join up as a Retailer member, you will get 75 copies of On The Hop to give to your customers.
At the moment there is a rabbit welfare crisis in the UK (link to campaign page) so we would like to see all breeding and selling of new rabbits suspended until the rescues have been able to catch up and good homes have been found for those in rescue or being rehomed on line.
We would therefore like retailers to direct customers to rescue and encourage them to adopt, rather than selling baby rabbits themselves.
We would also like to see retailers:
- Selling the correct housing
- Not selling muesli and advising the correct diet
- If rabbits are sold, only sell them in pairs, or to be paired up with another rabbit
